5 key items from the Essence Wallpaper Trend

Written by Hanna Wendelbo-Hansson, 14 October, 2015

Slow living is a keyword in the expression of ESSENCE, one of four themes in Sandberg Wallpaper Trend Report FW2015. We strive for sustainability and an aware approach to consumption. We don't want to be owned by our things, we want to downsize and spend as much time as we can with our family and friends. All this is reflected in how we decorate our homes, that are so important for us. The Essence expression is all about getting back to basics.

1. The Veggies

What we eat is important. We want to know what we eat and make sure that its good for us and the environment. We want to eat whats in season and for us people up here in the north that comes with special demands. The vegetables we grow during the light season we need to conserve, and one of the best way to do that is to pickle or ferment. Glass jars full of homegrown vegetables are beautiful to look at but also fulfilling.

To find inspiration for that old fashion root cellar watch chef Magnus Nilsson from Fäviken talking about his root cellar. What a dream!

2. The Dinner Table.

Gathering of friends and family demands a huge dinner table. A great table is the start for the home interior, if the surface of it is to rough, than cover it with a crinkled linen cloth to add extra authentic feeling and texture.

3. The Wooden Utilities.

We try to buy less stuff but we still need things to help us cook for example, and they better be beautiful to look at. A wooden tray  is a key item in creating this look. Head over to Artilleriet to find more of these beautilities.

4. The Walls.

Textures are important for this style as also can be named as a warm simplicity. When you keep the items in the room few and low key, make it personal and cosy by choosing a wallpaper with some textures on. Either go for a chalky surface or one with a textile feeling, like the green plaid wallpaper Charlotta in the picture above.

 5. The Details from Nature.

Bring the nature inside with a branch from a tree. Adding the organic look from nature to your home makes it both more interesting and alive.
